I have to admit that I wasn’t “feeling it.” Lent was great; I really enjoyed conversations in our Bible Study each week. The rainbow palms were welcoming and the music on Palm Sunday was fantabulous, but I still wasn’t feeling it. Maundy Thursday was powerful and wonderful and all the things it needed to be and yet, it felt as if something was missing.
As I fell asleep Saturday, April 4, I murmured to Wendy, “I’m just not feeling it this year.”
Then it happened. How? I don’t know. But it did—and it surprised me. Easter happened and I was resurrected. Unspeakable joy flooded my soul creating one of the most memorable Easter experiences I have ever had. Easter surprised me.
And I reflected, “how?” Was it the joyful throng in worship? What about the busy folks taking time to serve at Paz that evening? How about time spent with Nathan and “Thumper” Bunny? Was it the singing in worship? Maybe. Perhaps it was a combination of all of the above coupled with God bringing a sense of renewal to my soul.
It doesn’t matter if I can or cannot answer all of the how Easter happened questions!
The only thing that matters is that Easter happened. And once again, I am reminded that I am a child of God. So are you! Thanks be to God.
