What does worship look like? I’m sure y’all have different ways of interpreting what counts as worship. What comes to my mind at least, is, everything from praying quietly in a sanctuary with high ceilings and stained glass windows, singing songs during super long car drives and protesting police brutality on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri. Both my time at Eden Seminary and at Rebel & Divine UCC this summer, have made me constantly ask myself this question.
What does worship look like? During one of the gatherings at Rebel & Divine we learned to do a line dance and talked about never giving up on your dreams that you hold dear. Is doing something like this worship in the traditional sense? No. Is this a way to connect with God and create a community? Absolutely.
Never be afraid to experiment and change things up when it comes to worshipping God. Some of my favorite moments of worshipping God range from ridiculous forms such as reenacting the story of Jonah with silly costumes to marching the streets of Ferguson, Missouri alongside my peers at Eden and fellow clergy of St. Louis. So never be afraid to explore new and interesting ways to honor and worship God. You may end up forging a new relationship with God and strengthen not only your faith but the faith of others as well.
May God bless and keep you close,
