Pray. Pray for the people of Baltimore. Pray for wisdom for civic and religious leaders; pray that the police would be safe and do their jobs with the utmost professionalism; Pray that protests would be peaceful— may true dialogue replace looting.
Understand. We’re quick to judge—but that is not what is needed here; understanding is what the situation calls for. It’s so easy to judge that we naturally go that direction. It is much more difficult to understand. Understanding requires compassion, patience, and listening to one another.
The reality is that good hearts sometimes make poor choices. Through judging we separate groups; through taking the time to understand, we grow. Try and understand the protests of those who are oppressed and victimized. Take a long look through the eyes of law enforcement trying to keep peace. Now, envision what the leaders of that community are experiencing.
Act. Now is time to act with understanding. Act, if not for the people of Baltimore, then Maricopa County, or Mesa, or your neighborhood, with understanding—not judgment.
